Water use in a Jiffy Steamer

For the proper functioning of the machine, the regular use of soft water is recommended, thus avoiding possible breakdowns as a result of the lime accumulated in the device.

If you do not have this type of water in your area, it is recommended to decalcify the machine every four or six months, with the recommended liquid Jiffy Steamer cleaning product. Jiffy Steamer liquid cleaner a solution of water and vinegar.

Please refer to the water classification map of Spain for your geographical area and avoid using hard water.

Water Types:

(Based on Dry Residue): if it contains mineral salts, The lower the concentration of mineral salts, the more suitable the water is.. That is why they are classified as very weak, if it is equal to or less than 50 mg/l; low, when it is less than or equal to 500 mg/l; average, when it is equal to or less than 1500 mg/ly strong, when it is greater than 1500 mg/l.

Due to its hardness: It is almost always determined by calcium carbonate, it depends on the soil, since when water filters through it, it absorbs it. The longer it lasts, more lime, the best water is the one that is very soft. Most of the areas with sea have the most calcareous terrain, and therefore both harder watersThis can be clearly seen in appliances that use water; we'll see a white layer on their heating elements. Hardness is also measured and has different names: Very soft or less than 5º F (50 mg/l), whichever is best; soft, equal to or less than 10ºF (100 mg/l); low hardness, equal to or less than 15ºF (150 mg/l); dand medium hardness, equal to or less than 30ºF (300 mg/l); hard, equal to or less than 45ºF (450 mg/l); very hard, equal to or less than 80º F (800 mg/l), and very high hardness, equal to or greater than 80ºF (800 mg/l)

How lime spoils
your appliances in the water.

  • When we talk about water hardness and how it affects and damages household appliances, we're basically talking about the limescale content in tap water. We've occasionally heard experts talk about water hardness and wondered what it means to classify water based on hardness criteria. Generally, household appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers, steam irons, and water heaters suffer more when we have water with a high limescale content, i.e., when we have hard water.

  • We often blame water hardness for the shortened lifespan of our appliances. It's important to understand the characteristics of tap water so we can act accordingly. If we have water with a high limescale content, we have several options; consult an expert.

  • With hard water, with excess limescale, we suffer a host of consequences. The first of these is a reduction in the lifespan of our appliances. Most of the visits made by appliance retailers' technicians are related to limescale buildup in the machinery. This occurs to a lesser extent in those Spanish towns with water with a lower limescale content, especially in the Meseta and in the north of the country. However, the water in almost the entire Mediterranean basin is characterized by hardness, that is, its high limescale content.

  • Limescale often builds up in the pipes where hot water flows to household appliances. Over time, with use, limescale in the water causes serious appliance breakdowns, especially in the heating element area or in the pumps that regulate the flow of water. In addition, pipes can become clogged due to a reduction in diameter caused by limescale buildup, which causes breakdowns.
